🎯 Session Review

Stocks limped into the weekend with a low-key red finish. The S&P 500 slipped 0.25% to 7,711.76, the Nasdaq dropped 0.52% to 26,402.42, and the Dow held nearly flat, shedding just 9.45 points to 53,559.99.

The headline number of the day was a downward revision to U.S. payrolls, with the preliminary benchmark showing 79,000 fewer jobs than previously estimated for March. It was a relatively modest adjustment, but it landed as Treasury yields ticked higher across the curve, with the 5-year jumping nine basis points to 4.48%.

Higher rates plus a stronger dollar was not the combination growth stocks wanted to hear, which explains why the tech-heavy Nasdaq took the biggest hit of the major indexes.

🚀 Key Catalysts

The dollar was the muscle in the room today. The DXY climbed 0.47 to 99.64, helped along by news that Japan spent a record $98.7 billion last month to prop up the yen in rare coordinated action with the U.S. When the greenback flexes, risk assets tend to wobble.

Bitcoin got the memo, sliding 3.47% to $77,469. A firmer dollar and rising yields make speculative corners of the market less appealing, and crypto felt the squeeze.

Energy caught attention as Chevron (CVX) and Halliburton (HAL) closed in on billions in deals for Venezuelan heavy-oil fields. Meanwhile, Altria (MO) got a lift after the FDA authorized marketing for three new JUUL2 products, and Walmart (WMT) settled its opioid lawsuit with the DOJ.

A small Colorado company now owns rights to a tech that could save the entire public power grid from collapse. And billionaire Sam Altman is now an investor.

🎭 Investor Mood

Investor Pulse: Cautious Friday Fade
Sentiment felt cautious rather than fearful. The payrolls revision was small enough to avoid panic but large enough to remind everyone the labor market is cooling, and yields moving higher gave investors a reason to trim risk into the weekend.

There were bright spots that kept the mood from souring. Moderna (MRNA) and Merck (MRK) grabbed headlines with a cancer vaccine breakthrough after decades of dead ends, and Cytokinetics (CYTK) posted strong late-stage heart drug data. Biotech optimism was alive even as the broader tape faded.

On the single-stock front, Elastic (ESTC) surged over 16 points and lululemon (LULU) added nearly 6, while PayPal (PYPL) took a rough 7.81-point beating and IREN dropped alongside Bitcoin's slide.

🔍 5 Focus Points for Tomorrow

📈 Boeing (BA) and its white-collar union resume contract talks Monday, a potential swing factor for the stock.
📋 The Honda (HMC) and Nissan (NSANY) shared software deal, reportedly landing as soon as Monday.
🤖 Biotech momentum after Moderna (MRNA), Merck (MRK), and Cytokinetics (CYTK) breakthroughs.
🏛️ Treasury yields and the DXY, which are pressuring risk assets and crypto alike.

Where to Put $100 Before Trump's New Tech Law Rolls Out

Everyone is talking about Trump's new tech law. Financial Times says this tech puts America "on the verge of a financial revolution." Yahoo Finance says it could unlock $400 trillion. Jeff Brown was consulted by Congressional offices in Washington, D.C. to advise on it. He says the real number is even bigger — as much as $2.6 quadrillion could pour onto a new type of investment exchange in the days ahead…

💸 Bottom Line

A quiet down day is not a crisis, but the mix of a weaker jobs picture, higher yields, and a stronger dollar is worth filing away. These are the ingredients that shape the next round of Fed expectations, and markets will be recalibrating.

Watch the crypto space closely after Bitcoin's drop, and keep an eye on energy as the Chevron-Venezuela deal develops. Biotech also deserves attention with Moderna, Merck, and Cytokinetics all generating positive headlines this week.

Next week brings Boeing (BA) contract talks resuming Monday and the Honda-Nissan software partnership potentially getting formalized. Plenty of stories to track once the calendar flips.
